A family-run business in Smeaton Grange has produced one of the best automotive apprentices in the state. Tim Marano, 23, took out the body-maker apprentice category of the Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Authority Awards - and his father Fred could not be more proud.
"He's happy I achieved it and so were my two brothers and sister," Tim said. "I love working with my family so I reckon I'll be sticking around here for a while."
The family business, Sloanebuilt Trailers, manufactures tipping trailers and bodies. Tim has now completed his apprenticeship and is teaching other young people in the workplace.
State Fair Trading Minister Diane Beamer said Tim has been recognised for his practical skills at TAFE and his contribution to Sloanebuilt Trailers.
"Tim's father has every right to be proud of his son, who is following in his footsteps," she said.
"Tim has already established himself as a perfectionist in his trade and is passing on his skill and knowledge to other apprentices."
Ms Beamer said the Repair Industry Authority Awards were important because they acknowledge the work of young apprentices.
